Dreamers – now with an insecure future
Editorial by Luis Molina
The DACA program that President Obama gave was undoubtedly a beautiful gift with many benefits that provided almost one million young people with, not only peace of mind and tranquility, but also monetary benefits because, thanks to this program, today thousands of them have better jobs and their lives are much more stable.
These young people today are a source of development and growth for the nation, but also a source of monetary aid to their families, something that unfortunately was not taken into account this September 5 when canceling DACA.
Although DACA was canceled, we are confident that now the organizations and lawyers who are in favor of these young people do not give up and keep fighting over the next few months and get the congress to intervene on their behalf.
The sad reality is that things do not look promising and favorable for these young people because it will be difficult to get them anything. It was necessary to give this notice with a hard heart and not even Trump had that heart to give it, but rather he sent it to the Attorney General Jeff to give it, because he knew that he would do it easily since he was always against DACA.
If nothing is achieved in the coming months in appealing this decision, it will be disastrous and sad to see how the achievements of these young people will collapse in the coming months, their jobs, their homes, losing their driver’s license, economic instability in their homes, and the list is long.
As media, we are sure that it was a wrong decision and in bad taste because these young people had already proven that they would be a bulwark and support to the economy of this country. Many of them today are already demonstrating that they are not criminals but on the contrary. They are young people full of life, and most of what they are looking for is a better future for themselves, their families and this nation, something that the government did not care about at the moment to eliminate DACA.
For now, it is only a matter of waiting and crossing your fingers to see if the organizations and advocates of these young people can achieve something in the appeals that will come in the coming months.
