Sí se puede, sí se puede, sí se puede… esas palabras resonaban ante los oídos de todos los conductores en la avenida South Division en Grand Rapids, donde cientos de personas, latinas en su mayoría, marcharon con pancartas apoyando “un día sin inmigrantes” para mostrar la pérdida de poder que tiene esta nación sin los latinos.
La mañana del 16 de febrero las calles estaban solitarias y la ausencia de los hispanos fue palpable pues no muchos transitaban por las calles. Miles de ellos no fueron a sus trabajos y cientos de negocios cerraron sus puertas para mostrar así el poder económico que tienen los latinos en este país, país que se compone de inmigrantes.
Cabe destacar que sin los latinos, esta nación no sería lo que es hoy. La economía no la mueve los millonarios sino los negocios pequeños, emprendedores que día a día abren sus negocios. Para muestra solo pongamos de ejemplo la ciudad de Chicago.
En dicha ciudad se mueve más dinero en el barrio de la Villita que en el mismo centro de Chicago. Y, ¿qué negocios están en la Villita? Un 99.9% son negocios latinos, negocios que día a día contribuyen al desarrollo y crecimiento de este país, y aunque hay algunos que no reconocen la realidad, es que, así como este ejemplo hay miles más.
Pensemos aquí mismo en Grand Rapids y sus alrededores. Muchos de los negocios que hoy día están operando y creando empleos y pagando impuestos son porque empresarios latinos abrieron sus negocios donde un día operaban otros negocios que se fueron a la quiebra por x razón, y gracias al poder económico de los latinos, hoy día están abiertos.
Estamos seguros que, en solo este día, 16 de febrero, se perdieron millones de dólares a través de la nación por el paro de los inmigrantes, y no dudamos ni un minuto que esa fuerza se dejó ver y sentir, y eso, que solo fue un día, ¿Que sería un mes sin inmigrantes? Nada más que catastrófico.
A DAY WITHOUT IMMIGRANTS

Yes you can, yes you can, yes you can … those words echoed in the ears of all the drivers on South Division Avenue in Grand Rapids, where hundreds of people, mostly Latinos, marched with banners supporting “a day without immigrants” to show the power loss that this nation has without Latinos.
On the morning of February 16, the streets were lonely and the absence of Hispanics was palpable, since not many people were walking through the streets. Thousands of them did not go to work and hundreds of businesses closed their doors to show the economic power that Latinos have in this country, which is made up of immigrants.
It should be noted that without Latinos, this nation would not be what it is today. The economy is not driven by the millionaires but by the small, entrepreneurial businesses that open their businesses every day. For a sample only, let’s take the example of the city of Chicago.
In that city more money is moved in the neighborhood of La Villita than in the very center of Chicago. And, what businesses are in La Villita? 99.9% are Latino businesses, businesses that contribute to the development and growth of this country every day, and although there are some that do not recognize the reality that, like this example, there are thousands more.
Let’s think about right here in Grand Rapids and its surroundings. Many of the businesses that are currently operating and creating jobs and paying taxes are because Latino entrepreneurs opened their businesses where other businesses went bankrupt for some reason, and thanks to the economic power of Latinos, today they are open.
We are sure that in this day alone, February 16, millions of dollars were lost across the nation due to the halt by immigrants, and we do not doubt for a minute that that force was seen and felt, and that was only for a day. What would it be for a month without immigrants? Nothing but catastrophic.
